Set up in 2001 in partnership with the GIPA, which markets it, the spare car part monitoring service consists of two distinct bimonthly monitoring reports: 1st level purchases and 2nd level sales.

The information is gathered by a combination of either fax/telephone or e-mail/telephone by the Institute’s interviewers, who specialise in gathering information in a professional environment.
The statistical processing carried out uses the weighted quota method by product family and participant category based on structural market data.
A – Barometer operating principle
Appearing bimonthly, both monitoring options produce 6 reports a year providing the following information:
• Bimonthly variations in turnover,
• Variations in the volume of technical products sold or purchased:
- Brake pads
- Brake disks
- Drum brake kits
- Shock absorbers
- Exhaust silencers
- Catalytic converters
- Tyres
- Passenger compartment filters
- Oil filters
• Variations in the volume of high sales volume products sold or purchased:
- Spark plugs
- Heater plugs
- Batteries
- Oils
- Windscreen wiper blades
